From our original stock of some 1400 books in print we now have 500, and mostly just a single copy of each. As we have sold so much over the last few months I have been busily revising our lists, the result is a greatly depleted list, but at the time of going to press (4 August 2025) everything is present. Many entries include a note that this is the last copy, in fact almost everything is now the last copy. A great improvement is that everything can now be ordered online.
The work has been a bit on an eye-opener. As well as counter sales we have disposed of one or two large blocks of stock to the trade (we no longer have any new Middleton Press or IRS books) so there have been many deletions. On the other hand we have found boxes of stock unopened since we left Station House. The result is that although these books are new in the sense "not pre-owned", some of them are in fact long out of print. Some bear the signs of old age - faded spines, shelf wear, lack of sparkle, that sort of thing. But most are in decent nick and of course many are relatively recent.
The books are arranged in sections by subject as an aid to browsing, many of them will appear in more than one section.
Discount A discount is automatically applied at the checkout. Some of the books listed in this section have already been reduced by more than the discount. For these items I have raised the new price so that when the discount is taken off they are charged at the correct price, which I have noted in the text.

Out Of Print Showcase

The Showcase used to be a small selection of 700 out-of-print books chosen to give an idea of the range of our stock when we had 20,000 - 30,000 second hand, rare and old volumes on our shelves. There are now just 450 books left on the Showcase, slightly out of proportion to our achievements in whittling down the shop stock. I have rooted out the sold items and added a handful of BR Scottish and NE Region passenger time tables. I'm hoping to add the rest of our time tables next week, and maybe some other stock.
