" The company ran the trains very successfully, from 1886 to 1908, when the Government purchased the line to form part of the North Island Main Trunk.

At the time of publication the route was incomplete and certain sections were travelled by river steamer. This edition seems to be fairly scarce and is the first we have seen for several years.

Bound in old quarter morocco, rubbed but sound, marbled end papers, top edge gilt. Contents clean and tight. A very good copy of a scarce volume. ** A good all-round account of the history, engineering and operation of the PRR. Even then the Pennsy had a good reputation for sound engineering and careful management.
