The Railway Magazine 1897-2008 Ref: Run 243

SOLD

New In The Market
Volumes 1-154. A superb run of the premier British railway monthly in publisher's bindings throughout, from the very first number of July 1897. Format is large octavo in 6-monthy volumes up to 1939, medium octavo in annual volumes to 1963, medium quarto 1964-1981 and standard magazine A4 from 1982 to the present.
The Railway Magazine covers all aspects of railways in the British Isles and many other parts of the world, both contemporary and historical. An outstanding feature has been the regular motive power performance feature written for many years by Cecil J Allen (1910-1959), followed by O S Nock, Peter Semmens, John Heaton and Keith Farr. There are innumerable surveys of main lines, branches, train services and timetabling, locomotive classes and technical descriptions. There are few countries of the world that have not been covered at some time. Plus current news and events, answers to queries, photo features, book reviews and letters.
The first six volumes are bound in the publisher's original style of dark green cloth with a gilt and black decorative design on the front boards. The rest are bound in the publisher's standard dark red cloth titled on the spines and fronts. A little fading on the spines of the Edwardian era copies and some of the 1940s-50s copies, otherwise a bright and collectable set throughout.
Price: we bought this set at an advantageous price and can therefore offer it at a substantially lower price than other sets sold by us in recent years:
