Six volumes octavo, about 130 pages per volume (except the final volume which is 77 pages), numerous photo plates, all with dust wrappers, some wear and occasional spotting to the latter, and spotting to the edges of volume 2, but a good, presentable set of this famous work. **The text originally appeared as a long series of articles in the Railway Magazine between 1915 and 1926. It was subsequently arranged in book form and edited by L L Asher, who in the early 1950s was building up a railway list for Heffers, the Cambridge academic booksellers. In volume sequence the set runs: Eastern English Companies; LMS English companies; Scottish Companies; Southern Companies; Great Western and constituents; Irish companies. In all 32 companies are described in Ahrons' inimitable style.
